We live in a self-directed world. Today, more than ever before, consumers have greater control and a greater voice over the goods they buy and the services they receive. A five star Yelp review is a huge win for any restaurant. Give a driver a two star rating on a ride share app, and you get an inquiry from the company about what went wrong. You can create your perfect pizza online, and order again with just the click of a button.  You can even meet the love of your life online thanks to  simple questionnaires and algorithms.

For most people, we live in a world full of choices. For most – but not all. For people with disabilities, senior citizens, and their families, choice and control is something that is taken away all too often. Society’s assumptions about those of us who require assistance all too often deprive seniors and people with disabilities of dignity and autonomy. This is particularly the case when it comes to having making decisions about direct support services.

The MySupport team is a group of long-time disability rights advocates who recognize the challenges our society places on people who receive support from workers in order to live in their own homes and communities. We also understand the challenges facing workers who do important work and deserve a choice of employer. Direct support relationships work best when they are between two people who respect each other and share common values. We believe in a world where both workers and consumers have their needs met on their own terms.
